I saw this tidbit posted on Design Observer and if you know me, I click on anything about sketches. This is especially nice because nowadays clients expect a finished logo on the first round. Exxon began as a simple sketch in 1996 and became their official logo in 1972 and then a worlwide known mark.
The logo was designed by Raymond Loewy, an industrial designer who made his mark with a start in window designs in New York to locomotive designs for the Pennsylvania Railroad. Besides those that I’ve mentioned here he has an extensive resume and it’s remarkable what he had accomplished. Makes me feel like a slouch, but I’ve got a long way to go!
What does it look like now? Not far from the original, good design.
